RIW Hosts Prompt Payment Act Symposium with the Boston Bar Association

On October 22nd, RIW President Bradley Croft moderated a panel of experts to discuss the intricacies and impacts of the Massachusetts Prompt Payment Act.

The recent court decisions in Tocci Building Corp. v. IRIV Partners and Business Interiors v. Graycor have fundamentally changed the way complex construction projects are administered in Massachusetts and how the risks and consequences for withholding payments are handled. This two-hour program took a deep dive into the current state of the Prompt Payment Act in Massachusetts.

Brad and Andrew Dennington, the attorneys who successfully argued the Tocci and Graycor decisions, respectively, were joined by construction law experts Stan Martin and Tony Starr to discuss best practices for processing payment applications in compliance with the Act and navigating its statutory minefield of risks. They inspired insightful questions from the audience, encouraging many discussions and paving the way for further conversations on this important topic.

Thank you to everyone who attended, and as always, to the Boston Bar Association team for their expertise and warm hospitality in hosting the event.
