Why did you become a paralegal?
One of my college professors (who was also an attorney) complimented my writing skills when writing legal briefs and suggested I intern at a law firm. I landed a job as a legal assistant on my first application while still in school. I quickly realized there was a big need for legal support in the industry and that I would be able to help my community.

Tell us about your career path.
I started in personal injury torts and supported litigation matters by answering discovery, drafting pleadings, and preparing cases for mediation, arbitration, and trials. We also handled maritime law and workers’ compensation matters and represented many seamen and construction workers, many of whose first language was Spanish, which I speak fluently. A big part of my role was translating and interpreting for our clients.

A few years later, I decided I wanted to venture into different areas of the law and landed a position at a real estate firm. The firm handled commercial and residential real estate, representing lenders, buyers, and sellers. I also did trusts and estates, corporate work, and the firm’s administrative work.

Tell us about your practice.
I have been handling real estate, banking, and corporate matters for 8 years and almost 15 years as a legal assistant and later a paralegal in and around the Boston area.

What do you love most about what you do?
I love that after all these years, I can still learn something new, as no two cases are ever the same, which keeps things interesting. I also love utilizing my strengths as a paralegal, such as reading and writing.

Why did you choose the firm?
Some of my former colleagues who are also friends and attorneys highly recommended Ruberto, Israel & Weiner, so their reputation precedes them. My previous firm also worked with the firm on real estate deals and had a pleasant experience with RIW. During the interview process, the team seemed to have great camaraderie, and so far, I have been proven right!

Tell us a fun or surprising fact about you.
In addition to my paralegal work, I enjoy acting, which I have been doing for just as long.

What do you do in your free time?
As I mentioned, I am an actor. When I am not busy with my legal work, I am auditioning or filming something with my partner, who is a film director, or taking an acting class.

I have two dogs and one cat, which keeps my home life busy, not counting the four strays that live in my yard. I also enjoy reading, usually a Stephen King or Anne Rice novel or a self-help book. Movies are my passion, so I enjoy film festivals and foreign cinema. I also love theater and live shows.
